Rhode Island Electronic Waste Bill Becomes Law Without Governor's Signature

On July 7, 2006, Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri allowed House Bill 7789 to become effective without his signature. The law requires that after July 1, 2008, all covered electronic products (“CEPs”) must either be recycled or disposed of as hazardous waste. Rhode Island joins a number of other states, including Washington, California, Maine and Maryland, in adopting a law concerning the recycling of electronic products.
