EuP in Austria UpdateMay 16, 2008 Austria - Design for Environment, Energy EfficiencyAustria has implemented the EU Directive on energy-using products (EuPs) through the Eco-Design Act ("Verordnung des Bundesministers fuer Wirtschaft und Arbeit zur Schaffung eines Rahmens fuer die Festlegung von Anforderungen an die umweltgerechte gestaltung energiebetriebener Produkte"). The law was adopted on June 14, 2007 and has entered into force on August 10, 2007.
A Special Report has been created which discusses the Austrian legislation implementing the EU Directive on the eco-design of energy-using products (the "EuP Directive"). The EuP Directive is a framework directive; products are not be subject to eco-design or energy efficiency requirements until implementing measures (so-called "Commission Directives") have been issued. The directive itself does not create legal obligations for manufacturers. Likewise, the Eco-Design Act does not set forth any requirements applying to EuP products.
