June 25, 2008

Germany - Batteries

In May and June 2008, the German government has conducted a consultation on a draft measure implementing the Battery Directive (Directive 2006/66 on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators). In August 2007, the German Ministry of Environment had discussions with stakeholders to prepare for transposition of the Battery Directive. Having received comments from interested parties, the Ministry prepared draft transposing legislation. The draft transposition measure was released on 8 May 2008 and at the same time the Ministry launched an official public consultation. Interested parties were invited to submit their comments on the draft by 13 June 2008. The draft will be finalized after consideration of the received submissions. Thereafter, it will be submitted for approval to the Bundestag.
