Draft Candidate List of Substances Subject to Authorization under REACH Released

July 7, 2008

European Union - Restricted Substances Overview

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has released a draft candidate list of substances that will be subject to authorization under the REACH Regulation. This draft list is the subject of a first public consultation and sets forth 16 proposed Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs), including three phthalates and the brominated flame retardant HBCDD. These 16 SVHC proposals have been submitted by Member States seeking to include these chemicals on the list of “candidate substances” that may eventually be subjected to authorization under REACH. The public consultation will be open until 18 August 2008.
