First EuP Ecodesign Standards Approved by Regulatory Committee

European Union - Design for Environment, Energy Efficiency

On 7 July 2008, the committee of member state experts (regulatory committee) under the EuP Directive approved a draft implementing measure setting eco-design standards under the 2005 energy-using products (EuP) for maximum power consumption for standby and off mode. This standard will apply across a range of electronic and electrical products including office equipment and household products such as computers and televisions. The proposed standard will now be scrutinized by the European Parliament and is scheduled to be formally adopted by the European Commission later this year.
