European Parliament Approves Amendment of Battery Directive Concerning Transition IssuesJuly 30, 2008 European Union - BatteriesOn July 9, 2008, the European Parliament approved an amendment to the EU Battery Directive (Directive 2006/66/EC) that is intended to clarify transition issues concerning the placing on the EU market of batteries. Specifically, the amendment explicitly provides that batteries placed on the market until and including 26 September 2008, which is the transposition deadline for the member states, will not have to comply with the Directive’s requirements. These requirements will apply only to batteries that are placed on the EU market after that date.
