Commission Proposes Extension of Ecodesign Program and Further Ecolabeling InitiativesAugust 4, 2008 European Union - Design for Environment, Energy Efficiency, Packaging and LabelingThe European Commission has proposed a major new policy package aimed at sustainable production and consumption. The package involves joint action in four separate policy areas, and would (i) extend the scope of the EuP Directive's ecodesign program, (ii) revise and extend ecolabelling practices, (iii) establish new mandatory standards related to green public procurement, and (iv) revamp the EU’s environmental management scheme known as “EMAS.”
