North Carolina Includes TV's in Electronics Recycling Program and Delays Implementation

On August 9, 2008, Governor Mike Easley signed H.B. 819 into law, amending the not-yet-implemented North Carolina electronics recycling program. In 2007, the North Carolina legislature passed and Governor Easley signed the Solid Waste Management Act, which established a statewide recycling program for the collection, transportation and recycling of discarded computer equipment. Most requirements under the 2007 law became effective on January 1, 2009. The 2008 amendment broadens the scope of the North Carolina electronics recycling law to include televisions. It also delays the effective date for all electronics recycling requirements—those applicable to computer equipment or televisions—to January 1, 2010.
