Cell Phone Take-Back Bill Targets Manufacturers and Service

A new bill presented in Argentina’s Chamber of Deputies calls for cell phone take-back, not just by manufacturers but also by cell phone service providers. Bill 4469-D-2008 (the “Bill”) is an unusual proposal for the region because it would require manufacturers and service providers, but not importers, to cover the entire cost of the take-back program. Although brief, the Bill is notable as one of the first initiatives in Argentina focused solely on EOL cell phones.
