China - Product Stewardship Overview

On August 29, 2008, China's National People's Congress enacted the Circular Economy Promotion Law ("Circular Economy Law"), the effective date being January 1, 2009. The Circular Economy Law addresses a broad range of issues and all industries, including the electronics industry. The Circular Economy Law directs Chinese agencies to enact legislation to address “3R” issues – reduce, reuse and recycle. Among other agencies, the National Development and Reform Commission (“NDRC”), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) will be leading the various agencies in implementing the Law.
