Commission Adopts First Implementing Measure under EuP Directive: Regulation on Standby and Off Mode

On 17 December 2008, the European Commission adopted Eco-design Regulation 1275/2008 to reduce the energy consumption of all household and office products in standby and off mode (the “Standby Regulation”). The regulation is the first implementing measure under the EuP Directive. It was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJ) of 18 December 2008 and entered into force on 7 January 2009.
