Proposed Bill Would Require Electronics Manufacturers to Document RoHS Compliance

On January 22, 2009, Assembly Member Lori Saldana introduced Assembly Bill 147 (“AB 147”) to the State Assembly. If enacted, AB 147 would require manufacturers of “electronic equipment” to prepare and submit to the Department of Toxic Substances Control (“DTSC”) technical documentation or other information showing that the electronic equipment is not prohibited from sale under the European Union’s (“EU”) directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances (“RoHS”), or Directive 2002/95/EC.
