Chemicals known as brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are widely used in the United States in products including plastic housing for electronics, computers, and circuit boards. Due to concerns regarding the health effects of BFR exposure, Illinois, Maryland, and Oregon have passed legislation this year prohibiting products that include certain BFRs.
