Argentina - City of Buenos Aires Passes a “Zero Waste” Law

The Legislature for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires recently passed Law 1.854, or the “Law for the Integrated Management of Urban Solid Wastes.” Known colloquially as “La Ley Basura Cero” (“Zero Waste Law”), the Law establishes an ambitious waste management framework designed to progressively reduce urban solid waste disposal to 75 percent of 2004 levels by 2017, with a total ban on the disposal of recyclable materials by 2020.
