UPDATED: Omnibus Waste Bill with E-Waste Take-Back Approved by Chamber of Deputies

Published March 11, 2010

Brazil - Product Take-Back

In an historic vote nineteen years in the making, Brazil's Chamber of Deputies voted to approve an amended Omnibus Waste Bill (PL 203/1991) late in a special session on March 10, 2010. The landmark legislation now returns to the Senate for consideration. Although the final version approved by the Chamber of Deputies is not yet available, the press reports suggest that the EPR and e-waste take-back provisions remained in the text. We are closely monitoring websites for official versions of the bill to be posted.
