Introduction
Ontario is in the final stages of developing its province-wide Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (“WEEE”) Diversion Program, and will likely commence a first phase of the program in 2008. Covered products in Phase I will include: desktop and notebook computers and peripherals, monitors, printers, fax machines and televisions. Covered products in Phase II of the WEEE Diversion Program are to include copiers, PDAs and handhelds, scanners, typewriters, modems, pagers, phones (cell and wire line), cameras, video recorders, video players and audio equipment (e.g., radio, receiver, tuner, speaker). Those likely to be required to participate in the WEEE Diversion Program include brand owners, first importers, and/or assemblers of non-branded products for sale or use in Ontario that result in WEEE.
