Introduction

Massachusetts has enacted several pieces of legislation governing mercury-containing products.

1. An Act Relevant to Mercury Management:
Massachusetts has adopted an “Act Relevant to Mercury Management,” Chapter 190 of the Acts of 2006, which restricts the sale and use of mercury in certain products, implements labeling requirements, and sets recycling goals for certain mercury-containing products.

2. Mercury-Specific Legislation:
During the 2002 legislative session, Massachusetts enacted a restriction on the sale or supply of mercury thermometers.
