Introduction

New Hampshire has joined the states that restrict the use of certain toxic substances in electronic products.

Toxics in Packaging Legislation:
New Hampshire has adopted legislation modeled after the Model Toxics in Packaging Legislation which regulates packaging containing cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury.

Mercury-Specific Legislation:
New Hampshire has adopted legislation that bans the sale of certain mercury-containing products in the state. The legislation also requires manufacturers of mercury-added products to notify the state about how much mercury is contained in their products. In 2007, the ban was extended to the sale of additional mercury-added products, including mercury-added switches, relays and thermostats. A ban on the disposal of mercury-added products into solid waste landfills will take effect January 1, 2008.

Defined Restrictions:
Mercury: Prohibition on the sale of certain mercury-containing products; Notification requirements
Packaging: Regulated metals must be below 100 ppm for each package or packaging component
