Introduction

In Germany, the following Regulations implement the European legislation on energy-using products, energy efficiency and energy labeling:

1) No. 2037 ENERGY CONSERVATION The Ecodesign for Energy-Using Products Regulations 2007

2) Verordnung über die Kennzeichnung von Haushaltsgeräten mit Angaben über den Verbrauch an Energie und anderen wichtigen Ressourcen.

Date of entry into force: one day after publication
The following EU Directives are implemented by means of this Ordinance:

  • Directive 92/75/EC

  • Directive 2002/31/EC

  • Directive 2002/41/EC
And the Directives mentioned in Annex 1 of the Ordinance.

Requirements of the German Energy Agency

The German Energy Agency is a member of the Group for Energy Efficient Appliances (GEEA) and a contracting party to the Memorandum of Understanding on Voluntary Informative Activities on Home Entertainment and Office Equipment. Thus, home entertainment and office equipment marketed in Germany that meet the GEEA energy efficiency criteria may be registered under the GEEA scheme and use the voluntary GEEA-VIA label. GEEA is a Europe-based energy efficiency labeling program designed to recognize the top 25% of products in their class. It is based on voluntary compliance and harmonization.
