Introduction

In the European Union, legislation has been laid down to restrict the presence of mercury in products. Two Directives include legislative requirements for lead:

  1. Mercury restriction in packaging
  2. Mercury in restriction batteries
  3. Mercury prohibition in electronics

Defined Restrictions:
Packaging: 100 ppm for sum of heavy metals (lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium and cadmium)
Batteries: 0.0005 % (weight), 5 ppm
Electronics: prohibition (threshold limit: 0.1% by weight)
