Introduction

Minnesota is one of the leading states in the movement to consider adopting laws or regulations that specifically address the management of used or discarded electronic equipment. The state Pollution Control Agency (“MPCA”) and Office of Environmental Assistance both have programs addressing the management of end-of-life electronics.

Toxics in Packaging Legislation:
Minnesota has adopted legislation modeled after the Model Toxics in Packaging Legislation which regulates packaging containing cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury.

Defined Restrictions:
Regulated metals must be below 100 ppm for each package or packaging component.
