Introduction

Connecticut is one of nineteen states that have enacted toxics in packaging laws modeled after the Model Toxics in Packaging Legislation, drafted by the Coalition of Northeastern Governors (CONEG)  in 1989 and now being promoted by the Northeast Recycling Council (NERC) . The Connecticut law, “An Act Concerning Reduction of Toxics in Packaging,” was enacted in 1990 and amended in 1995.

Defined Restrictions:
The sum of incidental concentration levels of cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead, and mercury present in any package or packaging component must not exceed 100 ppm by weight.
