Introduction
Argentina has not developed a comprehensive regulatory regime for take back of product packaging. The City of Buenos Aires, under its “Zero Waste Law,” may precede the federal government in establishing producer responsibility for packaging, although additional regulations will be required for implementation of such a program. For the moment, there is only one federal mandatory labeling requirement for primary carbon-zinc and manganese-alkaline batteries (cylindrical, prismatic and button), although there are a number of pending federal bills that contemplate labeling for electronic equipment and batteries. The City of Buenos Aires Zero Waste Law also contemplates the use of a label for all covered products and packaging, although it remains to be seen how this will be implemented.
