Introduction
Several years ago, the Economy Ministry (MECON) launched a mandatory energy efficiency standards and labeling program that was initially aimed at electrical equipment and home appliances, but could have been expanded to encompass electronics. However, this program was never fully implemented even with regard to the initially covered products due to the lack of registered laboratories capable of certifying equipment. A resolution recently issued by the Secretariat of Technical Coordination (SCT) continues the suspension of the program and sets a phase-in schedule for covered products. In addition, there are bills pending before the Argentine Congress that would require the setting of minimum standards for electrical household appliances and the establishment of a National Plan for Energy Efficiency.
