Introduction

Oregon has joined the states that restrict the use of certain brominated flame retardants (“BFRs”).

1. Flame Retardant Legislation:
Due to concerns regarding the health effects of BFR exposure, Oregon has passed legislation prohibiting the sale or distribution of products that include certain BFRs. The restrictions took effect January 1, 2006.

Restricted Substances:

The BFRs pentabrominated diphenyl ether (“pentaBDE”) and octabrominated diphenyl ether (“octaBDE”) are now defined in Oregon law as hazardous substances, with restrictions on introductions of these substances into commerce.
