Introduction
Estonia has adopted a comprehensive eco-design and labeling act entitled “Seadmete Energiatohususe Seadus” (the “Eco-Design Act”), which was published in the Official Gazette of 17 December 2003. It was amended on 15 February 2008 to transpose the provisions of the EuP Directive 2005/32/EC on ecodesign of energy using products.
Estonia has also adopted legislation to transpose the so-called “implementing measures” pursuant to the EuP Directive, namely:
- Directive 92/42/EEC on hot-water boilers fired with liquid or gaseous fuels by Regulation No. 21 of 26 January 2004 on liquid and gaseous fuel boilers efficiency, marking and technical documentation requirements.
- Directive 96/57/EEC on refrigerators, freezers and combinations thereof by Regulation No. 23 of 27 January 2001 on household refrigerators, freezers and their combinations energy efficiency and technical documentation requirements; and
- Directive 2000/55/EC on ballasts for fluorescent lighting by Regulation No. 17 of 26 January 2001 on ballasts for fluorescent lighting and energy efficiency and technical documentation requirements.
