Introduction

The Rhode Island Electronic Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling Act, House Bill 7789, became law without the Governor's signature on July 7, 2006. The law requires that after July 1, 2008, all covered electronic products ("CEPs") must either be recycled or disposed of as hazardous waste. In addition to the disposal ban, the law also directs the Department of Environmental Management ("Department") to study and report back to the legislature regarding establishment of a collection, recycling and reuse program for CEPs in Rhode Island.
