Electrical Safety Summary

The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations applies to all electrical equipment designed for use with a voltage rating of between 50 and 1000 V AC and between 75 and 1500 V DC. The Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EEC is one of the oldest Single Market Directives and was adopted by the Council on 19 February 1973 with the aim of harmonising the laws of the Member States relating to electrical equipment. The Directive covers all risks arising from the use of electrical equipment, including not just electrical ones but also mechanical, chemical (such as, in particular, emission of aggressive substances), health aspects of noise and vibrations, and ergonomic aspects as far as ergonomic requirements are necessary to protect against hazards in the sense of the Directive.
